Fee: $ 5.00 per entry per class. Participants can participate in as many classes as they wish.
Age: There is no age limit but participants must be able to safely operate their own device.
Spectators: Are welcome. Concessions will be sold.
Winnings: The champ for each class will receive 10 % of their classes collected entry fees. (Max payout for each class will be $ 50.00) A participant must pay entry fee to be declared champ.
Sling: A pouch or pocket with two non-elastic lengths of rope attached on opposite ends. Rope can be maid of any type of material natural or synthetic and can be twisted, braided, or cord. Pouch can be maid of any type of material natural or synthetic as long as it can securely hold an egg. Pouches can even be incorporated in the rope as a split as long as the egg cannot slip through the split. Visit www.slinging.org to see various methods and materials for making slings.
Eggs: Participants can use hardboiled or pickled chicken eggs. Each participant will have three rounds for each class to sling their egg as far as they can. For an egg’s distance to be marked at least ¾ (basically a noticeably large portion) of an egg must be intact when impacting the ground. Eggs can be decorated as long as decoration does not increase structural integrity of egg (ex: plastic sleeves).
Distance: Each participant’s qualifying egg’s ground impact will be marked for each round. At the end of each round the farthest egg’s impact will be determined and its measurement recorded. The farthest measurement recorded after all three rounds will be declared the Champ of their class.
David Class: In this class you can only use a sling. The sling must be manually operated and released. All participants will sling their egg from behind the same line. Participants’ eggs must land within the front 90-degree arc of line to be marked. No part of a participant’s body may cross the line but their sling can. If any part of a participant’s sling travels with their egg or if their sling breaks then they forfeit the round. Slings can be as long as can be safely used by one person. No assistants will be allowed. For guidance on making and operating a sling visit www.slinging.org or contact Camp Christy Managers.
Staff Class: In this class you can only use a staff sling (a pole with a sling on the end). The sling must be manually operated but any safe releasing method may be used. All participants will sling their egg from behind the same line. Participants’ eggs must land within the front 90-degree arc of line to be marked. No part of a participant’s body or staff may cross the line but their sling can. If any part of a participant’s staff sling travels with their egg or if their staff sling breaks then they forfeit the round. The staff can be made of any rigid material and be as long as can be safely used by one person. No assistants will be allowed. For guidance on making and operating a staff sling visit www.slinging.org or contact Camp Christy Managers.
Freestyle Class: In this class you can use any device that can launch an egg. The device must require a manual means to store potential energy and a manual means to release stored potential energy. No Explosives! The participants’ devices will launch from the same line so must be portable or movable. Participants’ eggs must land within the 90-degree arc of line to be marked. No part of a participant’s device may cross the line. If any part of a participant’s device travels with their egg or if their device breaks then they forfeit the round. Participants will be given 5 minutes to get their device set-upped at the line. Once set-upped participants will be given 1 minute to load and launch their egg. Participants that load their devices before they are at the line will be disqualified. Assistants are allowed in this class. Fees and Prizes will be administered to each individual device and will be up to the crew to handle privately. If a participant has questions or to insure their device fit the parameters specified contact Camp Christy Managers.
