Valerie has a deep and evident passion for all of God's children, including children with special needs.

Valerie has spent many summers volunteering or directing here at Camp Christy. She has a deep and evident passion for all of God's children, including children with special needs. She displays patience and understanding when interacting with them.
​
Valerie currently is a para in the Special Education field in Garden City Public schools and has done so for the past 9 years. She has past experience as a childcare coordinator at the Garden City YMCA.
​
She says part of her passion also comes from her person experience with a cousin who has high-functioning autism.
​
Valerie is excited to continue this camp at Camp Christy!
​
This camp is July 10, 2026 from 9am to 4pm and open to kids and young adults ages 3 through aged 21.
The camp limit with be 7 campers and 7 peer models..
​Children who qualify for this camp will have declared mental of physical special needs as defined by a doctor or IEP.
​All campers who register may also bring one sibling peer model or parent. This is not mandatory as there will be a Camp Christy volunteer ratio of 1 adult to 2 children.
​This camp will be offered free in 2026 due to a grant given by the Western Kansas Community Foundation and private scholarships.
